While hopes for Vegas-style resorts in the UK have been crushed by a cautious British Prime Minister, the boss of Spain’s largest gambling business, Cirsa, has questioned whether the market there will sustain resort casinos, and whether regulatory change will happen fast enough to save the declining bingo market.
In the past five years Spain has climbed to near the top of every gaming operator’s wish list of emerging European markets but Joaquim Agut, Managing, Director of Spanish gambling giant Cirsa told delegates at the Gaming Executives Summit in Madrid last week that gross gaming revenues in Spain’s casinos was essentially flat, ”despite having 39 casinos across the country – nine more than five years ago.”
