South Korea Mulls All-Access Casino Gambling At Saemangeum

The South Korean government has hinted it is considering a proposal to allow Korean nationals to gamble at a casino-resort within the Saemangeum development zone in North Jeolla Province.

A potential rival to the remote but massively lucrative casino-resort Kangwon Land, the only casino that admits local gamblers, has emerged in the southwest of the country amid central government efforts to boost economic activity.

The online newspaper NewDaily reported on Thursday that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is moving to churn competitiveness in the nation’s aviation industry, and the introduction of an all-access casino for the Saemangeum area “is being discussed” at a national conference on economic development.
