South Korea Forms Online Gambling Policing Units Nationwide

South Korea’s National Police Agency (NPA) has responded to escalating cybercrime by establishing seven offices nationwide to combat online gambling.

The NPA announced on January 28 that it will boost full-time investigative personnel and set up new offices around the country to counter big increases in cybercrime, particularly online gambling, internet attacks on online devices and online pornography. 

The move follows the release late last year of the 2018 Cyber Threat Analysis Report, which analysed growing lawlessness in Korean cyberspace and discussed combatting new types of internet crime.
