The Pretoria High Court has revoked Trade and Industry Minister Mandisi Mpahlwa's decision last year to award the new operating licence for the South African National Lottery to the Gidani consortium, a subsidiary of the Greek lottery developer Intralot.
The outgoing operator, Uthingo, instituted legal proceedings last month against the minister and the national lottery board because it was dissatisfied with the transparency of the tendering process and the way Mpahlwa decided to appoint Gidani in particular.
