Slovak Parliament Passes Landmark Online Licensing Law

Slovakia’s online betting market will be opened up to operators from across the European Union for the first time after lawmakers passed new gambling regulations on Tuesday.

The new gambling act will allow private operators from outside the central European country to apply for licences and compete with state-owned TIPOS, as well as legalising online slots and casino games for the first time.

The move was partly driven by the Ministry of Finance’s recognition that an increasing number of Slovakians are gambling online, including with unlicensed overseas operators sites, and the huge technological developments since parliament last passed gaming legislation, it said.
