Report Reviews Harrah’s New Orleans License Extension

Harrah’s New Orleans received overwhelming support in the Louisiana House of Representatives this year to extend Caesars Entertainment’s license to run the property, but ran into strong opposition in the Senate over concerns that the terms favored the casino at the expense of state taxpayers.

House Bill 553, which was originally introduced by Republican House Speaker Taylor Barras, would have extended the casino’s operating contract for 30 years, with expiration set for 2054. In exchange, Caesars would invest $350m in upgrades to the facility, including a second hotel tower with 350 rooms.
