Despite the Gambling Commission pointing out that a review of online stakes and prizes has been in the works since at least last October, putting a date on the review sent UK bookmakers' shares tumbling last week.
After two days of giving evidence to the Lords on the economic impact of gambling and an informal parliamentary committee, commission chief executive Neil McArthur said the regulator expected to have a recommendation on online gambling stakes within six months.
His one-sentence promise to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on "Gambling Related Harm" on Wednesday knocked hundreds of millions of pounds off gambling shares.
