Comments on Washington, D.C.’s proposed sports wagering regulations may give an indication of which private operators are looking to get into the market despite its limitations.
Among those who filed public comments were three sports-betting operators with presences in other states: MGM Resorts International; DraftKings; and William Hill.
Private operators can operate in the district through partnerships with either D.C. stadiums or arenas with a “Class A” license, or by working with other D.C. businesses such as bars, taverns and restaurants through a “Class B” license.
A partnership with the stadium or arena would allow the operator to offer in-stadium wagering, as well as mobile wagering within a two-block radius of the facility.
