Politics Monkeying Around With Hard Rock's Hokkaido IR Bid

Florida gaming group Hard Rock International said today it would bring Broadway's King Kong musical to the land of Godzilla if it were selected to operate a casino in Japan, but local elections in April could yet unsettle its plans.

A cluster of six operators pitched their multi-billion-dollar visions of integrated resort (IR) investment in the snowy Hokkaido capital of Sapporo on Wednesday, but Hard Rock took the lead by unveiling a lavish scheme that would be built in the city of Tomakomai, including a 1,500-room guitar shaped hotel tower, a Four Seasons branded resort and 10,000 seat musical theatre to house the world’s most famous monkey, albeit in 25ft animatronic form.
