Polish Restauranteur Loses Supreme Court Case Over Illegal Slots

  • Venue owners liable for all slots on their premises
  • Owners can also be fined where machines are leased
  • Police set to continue raids and enforcement sweep

Slot machines face removal from restaurants across Poland after the supreme court confirmed proprietors are also liable for tax penalties.

This week, the Polish Supreme Administrative Court (NSA) ruled on a complaint filed by a businessman who had been fined by the tax authorities for operating unlicensed slot machines. 

The defendant claimed he was leasing the devices, which he placed in his restaurant, and argued that the PLN24,000 (€5,500) fine should instead be imposed on the machine owners.
