U.S. regulators, starting in Nevada, appear set to apply formal licensing scrutiny to one of online gambling’s most tried-and-tested marketing channels, a shift in global approaches to Internet gaming regulation.
The Nevada Gaming Control Board this month included “marketing affiliates” on a draft list of interactive gaming “service providers” it will require to come forward for licenses before supporting intrastate online poker operations.
Affiliates have played a central role in the rise of the online gaming industry.
