Players Facing Legal Jeopardy Under Romania’s New Gaming Rules

Punters who gamble on unlicensed websites in Romania could face a prison sentence of up to two years under Romanian legislation currently being considered by the European Commission, according to a Romanian lawyer.

Romania’s government submitted their draft gaming law for European consideration at the start of July, but Bogdan Mararu, a senior partner at Romanian gaming law specialists Mararu & Mararu, insists that the proposed law is unclear and could leave unlicensed online gambling operators open to criminal prosecution as well.
