The turbulence over lottery retailer fraud in Canada shows no signs of abating. Last week officials of the Nova Scotia lottery were roasted over the latest of a sequence of reports critical of their retailer oversight, leading to calls from the government minister responsible for gambling for a further inquiry into its management. However, as the hearings showed, the storm holds every potential to deepen and widen to other areas of lottery operations.A routine Nova Scotia legislative committee hearing last week escalated into a grilling for Nova Scotia lottery officials as they were subjected to questions about the measures taken to ensure the integrity of the lottery’s games.
