Pennsylvania’s proposed 54 percent tax on online slot games means that licensed operators offering a full suite of games would face an effective online casino tax at least double that of New Jersey, based on typical slot weightings observed in locally-licensed markets.
Last week’s passage of a wide-ranging gambling expansion bill in Pennsylvania, authorizing incumbent casino operators to apply for individual licenses to operate online slots, table games and poker, was not greeted with universal enthusiasm.
