The enactment of internet gambling legislation in Pennsylvania will not have any impact on efforts to pass a closely-watched online poker bill in bordering New York, according to the Empire State’s influential gaming policy shepherd.
Democrat Gary Pretlow chairs the New York Assembly Racing and Wagering Committee in which gambling bills originate. In recent years, he has carried several measures that would allow local racinos and casino-resorts to operate web poker.
When asked on Monday what impact, if any, Pennsylvania’s foray into internet gambling will have on the politics of online poker in Albany, the reliably pithy Pretlow offered: “I would think Pennsylvania will have the same effect as New Jersey did: None.”
