The business partner of an addicted gambler who stole nearly £1m from him to bet with is suing Flutter Entertainment in a bid to recover the money.
Flutter, the parent company of Paddy Power and Betfair, has been accused of lavishing trips to football games and the Grand National on gambler Antonio Parente, as well as depositing £20,000 in his account to encourage him to bet more, say court filings.
The FTSE 100 company allegedly targeted the property investor even though he had asked to be banned from Betfair for life.
Flutter is being sued in the High Court by a former business associate of Dubai-based Parente, who claims he is owed £942,135. Amarjeet Singh Dhir alleges that Parente stole from him to feed his habit.
