Hammered by the economic downturn and plunging tax revenues, California is leading a growing number of US states which are exploring whether tribal objections can be overcome as they seek to establish intrastate online gambling within their own borders.Traditionally the nation’s trend setter, California is taking the lead, with state legislators there expected to roll out a proposal in a matter of weeks to legalise online poker within state boundaries.
But officials in several other states are also starting to have initial discussions about setting up online gaming systems within their borders, said Jim Tabilio, president of Poker Voters of America, which is leading the state-by-state charge.
