Online gambling affiliates are confused and unhappy with what they view as conflicting advice on how to conform to regulation in the UK and elsewhere, but attempts to organise and fight potentially existential threats to the industry seem rudimentary so far.
Affiliates are facing the prospect of operators cancelling or drastically curtailing affiliate programmes, plus pressure to conform to data protection, privacy, consumer protection and know your customer (KYC) rules.
“This will be the year of focus on the affiliate, and if there isn’t some way to get ahead of the game, this is going to be a very bad year for affiliates,” said Clive Hawkswood, the Remote Gambling Association’s chief executive, speaking on a panel at ICE Totally Gaming 2018 last week.
