Nigerian Regulator Gets Political Backing To Ramp Up Tax Enforcement

Nigeria’s House of Representatives has told the national gambling regulator that it will be granted additional enforcement powers to improve tax collection.

Speaker of the house Femi Gbajabiamila said that politicians are willing to pass new laws that would allow the government to generate more tax revenue, including the creation of a central monitoring system for the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC).

A central system would connect all gambling and lottery terminals to allow the regulator to monitor all gambling activities in real time.
