New York Sports Betting Bill Expected In February

Assemblyman Gary Pretlow expects to file a long-awaited bill next month that would legalize sports betting in New York, a direct challenge to the federal prohibition known as the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 (PASPA).

“Pushing sports betting is at the top of my agenda right now,” Pretlow, a Democrat who chairs the Assembly’s Racing and Wagering Committee, told GamblingCompliance.

“Since New Jersey has failed in the courts, I want to do something a little bit different,” Pretlow said. “I’m hoping to get a split in the 2nd and 3rd [U.S.] Circuit [Court of Appeals] that will force Congress to do something.”
