New York Hearing Highlights Hurdles For Mobile Sports Betting

A New York Senate committee hearing on sports betting brought in speakers from all corners of the gaming industry, but also highlighted the many hurdles that legislators still have to clear to bring mobile wagering to the state this year.

More than 20 speakers participated in a four-hour Senate Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee hearing to discuss proposed legislation that would bring mobile betting to the state.

Notably absent from the list of speakers, however, was a representative from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration.

Cuomo, a Democrat, has been cited by many, including Democratic Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, sponsor of the General Assembly’s sports-betting bill, as the biggest obstacle to the passage of a mobile betting bill.
