A key New York lawmaker said he believes Governor Andrew Cuomo’s position on mobile sports betting has changed, but a spokesman for Cuomo quickly shot down any such shift.
During a panel discussion at the Cardozo School of Law in New York City on Friday, Assemblyman Gary Pretlow, a Democrat and chair of the New York State Assembly’s Racing and Wagering Committee, said he believed that the governor’s position has softened on whether mobile betting would require a constitutional amendment.
“I have it on good authority that the governor, who has heretofore said it was unconstitutional, has backed away from that,” Pretlow said. “We’ve not heard the governor say anything about it being unconstitutional in the last couple of days.”
