Mainstream media and news outlets should avoid referencing the odds of unlicensed sportsbooks due to “the dangers posed by these illicit sites,” according to a formal notice published on Tuesday by New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE).
The advisory bulletin signed by DGE director David Rebuck on November 24 addresses an issue that has vexed participants in the rapidly expanding market for regulated online sports betting in New Jersey and other U.S. states, whereby media outlets continue to cite odds provided by offshore sportsbooks violating U.S. laws, when they could instead reference those of lawful operators.
