New Irish Gambling Plans For Independent Regulator Welcomed

Bookmakers, industry analysts and politicians have welcomed plans to introduce new gambling laws in Ireland, including the introduction of a new independent regulator to oversee the sector.

The Irish Cabinet gave the go ahead on Thursday for work to begin on drafting a new version of the Gambling Control Bill — legislation which was first proposed in 2013.

The amended legislation is to include proposals to establish an independent statutory body to regulate the industry across the country, including ruling on gambling advertising and sports sponsorship, working to prevent young people accessing gambling products and setting up systems for gambling addiction treatment and industry research.
