New German Sports-Betting Licences Carry 'Greater Responsibilities', Says Hesse

Germany’s interim legislation will require all sports-betting operators wanting to access the market, including those already in possession of a 2012 permit, to apply for a new licence that involves a broader set of responsibilities than before, officials from Hesse confirmed on Tuesday.

At a packed-out information event in Frankfurt attended by more than 200 industry stakeholders, representatives from the Darmstadt Regional Council guided operators through the steps they would need to take to offer online sports-betting services in Germany over the coming months.

Requirements include submitting a declaration confirming that no online casino services will be provided, either through the operator or an operating partner, for the duration of the licence.
