Successful sports-betting legislation in Florida in 2020 remains a long shot for a host of reasons, both political and legal, but a package of three bills was filed this week to legalize the activity through the Florida Lottery.
Republican Senator Jeff Brandes filed Senate Bill 968 Monday that would legalize sports betting through the lottery in an open licensing model, similar to that which has been permitted in Tennessee.
He also filed Senate Bill 970, a proposal for how licensing and fees related to sports betting would be handled, and Senate Bill 972, which details the tax rate and how the revenue would be collected.
