With parliamentary approval secured for its plan to privatise the operation of the Hotel Carrasco, the Municipal Government of Montevideo has now opened a public tender to both national and international companies for a licence to operate gambling facilities at the hotel-casino. The move represents a significant split from state-controlled gambling in Uruguay’s capital city that had engendered serious allegations of corruption. The Municipal Government of Montevideo (Intendencia de Montevideo, or IMM) this week revealed the terms of the tender process that will eventually award one private company the exclusive 30-year licence to operate casino gambling at the famous hotel in the Montevideo suburb of Carrasco.
