A special commission’s decision to label daily fantasy sports (DFS) as a form of gambling in Massachusetts is being strongly criticized by DraftKings, while industry observers believe it could have a negative impact on efforts to legalize the industry in more states.
The Massachusetts Special Commission on Online Gaming, Fantasy Sports Gaming and Daily Fantasy Sports recently voted 5-3 to approve a report that recommends lawmakers define online gaming to include DFS, including Boston-based DraftKings.
James Chisholm, a DraftKings spokesman, warned the commission that its decision could restrain “our company’s ability to thrive and create jobs here in Massachusetts.”
