Malta Regulator Issues Largest-Ever Penalty

A Maltese company, Blackrock Media, has paid a record €2.34m penalty for operating a gambling company through a Maltese corporation without a licence, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) said on Thursday.

The penalty, which came by settlement, was handed out after a joint investigation between the MGA and Malta's Executive Police that determined the company was processing player payments as part of an unauthorised gambling company, the agency said.

A spokesman for the MGA said the settlement means "there is no further information that we deem fit to make public at this stage".

A director of Blackrock Media is Anthony Debono, who operates a wine trading company, Carnaby Ltd, and is a director of other companies, according to Malta Today.
