Maine Senate Overrides Governor's Sports-Betting Veto

After suffering a near-fatal setback in the form of a governor’s veto last month, sports betting in Maine is one step away from becoming a reality following the state Senate successfully overriding the veto on Thursday.

The Senate needed two-thirds of present members to override Governor Janet Mills’ veto of Senate Bill 553, which would permit sports betting in the state through an open licensing model for mobile betting, rather than tethering sports betting to the state’s two licensed casinos.
