Macau Junket Lobby Head Convicted Again Over Debtor Website

The head of junket lobby the Macau Gaming Information Association (MGIA) has received another suspended jail sentence, this time for defaming two people on his defunct name-and-shame website over unrecovered VIP gambling debt.

The Court of First Instance last week sentenced MGIA chairman Charlie Choi, 45, to six months in prison and ordered him to pay 20,000 patacas ($2,500) in restitution for defaming a former male co-worker and the latter’s girlfriend on the Wonderful World website from 2013.

The jail sentence, which confirmed a lower court’s ruling, was suspended for 18 months.
