Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has abandoned Osaka as a candidate city in its quest for a Japanese integrated resort (IR) licence, declaring the Kanto region’s Tokyo or Yokohama cities as its targets following the latter’s decision on Thursday to join the IR race.
Company chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson released a statement Thursday ruling out Osaka within hours of Yokohama Mayor Fumiko Hayashi confirming her city will campaign for one of three IR licences.
LVS “will not pursue the opportunity to develop an integrated resort in Osaka”, the statement said.
