Louisiana Sports Betting Meets Resistance As House Votes Down Companion Bill

Following attempts to kill a Louisiana sports-betting bill in Louisiana in a House committee earlier this week, a bid to bring sports betting to the state hit another snag Thursday when a companion bill failed to gain the needed majority on the House floor.

Senate Bill 153, which would trigger a voter referendum this November to legalize land-based sports betting, passed through the House Committee on Criminal Justice on Tuesday and now must clear the House Appropriations Committee before making its way to the House floor.

The Senate voted to approve the bill last month.
