The Australian parliament has banned secondary lotteries, but the prime target of Thursday’s decision, Lottoland Australia, has said the fight is not over.
On Thursday night the Senate passed the lower house’s Interactive Gambling Amendment (Lottery Betting) Bill 2018 without amendment on a voice vote after only one cross-bench senator objected to the bill.
Passage of the bill confirms that secondary lottery providers and keno betting operators must cease operations within six months of the governor-general giving royal assent, which likely places the deadline in early January 2019.
