Lottoland Chastised Over Lottery Gambling Confusion

Secondary lottery giant Lottoland has been castigated by UK advertising regulators, who said its radio commercial improperly implied that customers were playing in a EuroMillions lottery rather than in a gambling game.

The complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) was upheld as misleading even though the short advertisement used the word “bet” twice.

“We considered that the ad's references to 'bet' did not make clear that consumers would be gambling on the outcome of a lottery rather than actually participating in it, and, consequently, did not dispel the impression given by the voice-over's references at the start of the ad that a lottery was being promoted,” the ASA said today.
