Loot boxes are a form of gambling and UK laws should be altered to reflect that fact, according to a key government committee.
After months of evidentiary sessions, an inquiry into "immersive and addictive technologies" by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) has concluded that loot boxes are a form of gambling, and the committee has called on the government to act.
The inquiry, run by the department that oversees both the gambling and video game industries, heard evidence from games companies, addiction experts and gambling regulators.
