New York is likely to follow an incremental approach on sports betting by allowing several casinos to accept wagers this year but waiting until at least 2021 before legalizing online betting, according to the new chairman of the New York Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering.
“I think sports betting in our state is something that can be phased in over time,” Democratic State Senator Joseph Addabbo of New York told GamblingCompliance in a phone interview on Thursday.
“It’s not a question of doing it right away; it’s a question of doing it right,” Addabbo said.
