Leaked Emails Hit Government On Eve Of Baha Mar Launch

A Bahamian government minister who led negotiations for the sale of the Baha Mar casino-resort to Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook had previously been denied millions of dollars by the project’s ousted developer for contracts which he had lobbied to be given to his family business, according to recently leaked emails.

Jerome Fitzgerald, the minister of education, science and technology, made the alleged requests for contracts in emails from mid-2013 to mid-2014 to Sarkis Izmirlian, the billionaire former Baha Mar chairman and CEO, according to emails published by the Tribune newspaper on Thursday.

The revelations of potentially damaging conflicts of interest at the highest levels of government emerged on the eve of today’s launch of the long-delayed property.
