Leagues Turn To Congress As Last Resort On Sports Betting

In the wake of this week’s landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to end a 26-year ban on sports betting, the nation’s leagues appear to be gearing up for an aggressive lobbying campaign to persuade Congress to create a federal regulatory scheme that would override state-by-state oversight.

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), arguably the most hostile adversary of sports wagering historically, released a remarkable statement on Thursday pledging support for the federal regulation of wagers on college games.
