Lawmakers Say Legal Sports Betting Coming To Kansas In 2019

Lawmakers plan to consider several bills legalizing sports betting in Kansas when they return to Topeka early next month for the start of the 2019 legislative session, but what it might look like and how much it will be taxed is still to be determined.

A legislative committee met Tuesday to discuss options for sports betting, with some worrying that any extra revenue from the niche gaming business will not be enough to cover the costs to the state.

“It frankly doesn’t make a whole lot of sense,” said Democratic Representative John Carmichael.
