Kenyan Tax On Winnings Relaxed, But SportPesa Still Not Returning

Kenyan operators have succeeded in a legal bid to change a withholding tax on winnings to not include stakes, but former market leader SportPesa has not committed to resume its operations in the country despite welcoming the news.

The country’s Tax Appeals Tribunal (TAT) dealt several blows to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in its ruling, deeming that the term “winnings” should be revised to mean gross winnings, as opposed to the KRA’s definition of gross payout that included the staked amount.
