A bill legalizing sports betting in Kentucky was amended Wednesday to allow wagering on the teams of in-state public universities, potentially allowing bets on popular University of Louisville and University of Kentucky football and basketball games.
House Bill 137, which would legalize online and mobile wagering, was unanimously approved by the House Licensing, Occupations and Administrative Regulations Committee.
The bill also allows sports betting at horse racetracks and the Kentucky Speedway. HB 137 also would authorize fantasy sports contests and online poker games in the state.
It now goes to the full House of Representatives for a vote.
