Kentucky, Oregon Consider Joining The Post-PASPA Race To Offer Legal Sports Betting

Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling last month striking down the federal ban on betting on professional and collegiate sports, very few lawmakers in Kentucky were considering legalizing wagering on sports in a state that already allowed pari-mutuel gambling at horseracing tracks.

The state also has instant racing machines, known as historic racing machines, that base outcomes on previously recorded horse races using odds from the original race.

But now, a veteran lawmaker from West Paducah has prefiled a second sports-betting bill, while a bipartisan group of lawmakers announced the formation of a panel to write and consider a bill to legalize and regulate sports betting in the state.
