The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday confirmed it is extending the deadline for the gaming industry to comply with its reinterpretation of the federal Wire Act.
“I can confirm there has been a 60-day extension to the 90-day deadline for gambling companies to comply,” Nicole Navas, a spokeswoman for the DOJ, told GamblingCompliance in an email.
This means the original deadline of April 15 is extended to the middle of June.
The Justice Department’s decision follows comments last week by U.S. District Court Judge Paul J. Barbadoro of New Hampshire who strongly urged the DOJ to consider an extension, according to GamblingCompliance sources.
