Japanese Political Scandal Likely To Delay Casino Legislation

The deepening scandal surrounding Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, looks likely to derail the process of opening up the world’s third largest economy to casino tourism.

New evidence emerged on Monday of an official cover-up of a dubious public land sale involving Abe's wife, Akie, in 2016. Last year, Abe said he would resign if any link emerged between him, his wife and the suspiciously cheap sale of state land to Moritomo Gakuen, a school operator which teaches pre-war nationalist ideology.
