Japanese Lawmaker Re-Arrested As Prosecutors Indict Associates In Casino Bribe Scandal

Japanese prosecutors have re-arrested ruling party lawmaker Tsukasa Akimoto on a second bribery indictment in an escalating integrated resort (IR) scandal that has now snared a former Akimoto aide and a Hokkaido tourism mogul.

Tokyo prosecutors today re-arrested Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) lawmaker Akimoto for alleged bribery in a second incident connected to Chinese online lottery services provider 500.com, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported.

Details of the new indictment were not immediately available. However, the Nikkei Shimbun reported that the latest alleged bribe involves some ¥3.7m ($33,600).
