Japan Legalises Casinos, US Gaming Companies Set To Compete For Licences

Casino operators including Las Vegas Sands and MGM Resorts International are moving forward with plans to apply for one of three licences to operate large-scale resorts in Japan now that the nation’s parliament has approved legislation legalising casinos.

Wynn Resorts, Hard Rock International and Caesars Entertainment have also expressed an interest in a market with the potential to rival Las Vegas and Singapore. Fitch Ratings has valued the Japanese gaming market at $6bn annually.
