Japan IR Host Cities To Swallow Licence Renewal Risk

Political and commercial circles are beginning to grapple with the investment-repelling potential of Japan’s “ten year, five year” licence renewal provision in its integrated resort (IR) implementation law, with experts so far only able to suggest that IR candidates and host cities thrash out a solution. 

The passage of the Integrated Resorts Implementation Act in July against popular opinion and noisy political opposition was a milestone in the long road to opening IRs in Japan, but details of the law are beginning to cause heartache.
