The Japanese government has postponed the application window for regional integrated resorts (IRs) by at least nine months because of pandemic disruption.
The Kyodo News agency reported on Friday that the seven-month application window, which had been scheduled to open on January 4, will be delayed “until or after next fall”, likely pushing IR openings toward the end of the decade.
The report said the government concluded on Thursday that the worsening performance of foreign companies and delays in regional government preparations made the postponement necessary.
