Italy’s 2019 budget law is set to include a tax increase for slot machines and video lottery terminals (VLTs), while the country’s hostile government ponders new amendments to further squeeze the gambling industry.
The controversial 2019 budget already includes plans to increase slot machine taxes, but a series of further amendments are being prepared that could heap more misery on the country’s gambling sector.
After its initial publication last month, the draft budget became the subject of criticism from the European Commission, which demanded that Italy find a more palatable way to pay for its costly spending commitments.
